We traveled to Cedar Point with kids this summer four times. Every time I told someone that, they had the same reaction. “Your kids must really like rollercoasters!”. Actually, no. They don’t. We’ve discovered that there is so much more to do Cedar Point with kids than just crazy thrill rides.
As I mentioned, we took four trips. A day trip, a one night, a two night and a three night. For this post, I’m going to focus on the three night trip.
Where We Stayed
When we want to stay for a longer amount of time, we love staying in the horizon suite at Hotel Breakers. It’s a seriously huge room so the five of us don’t ever feel like we’re on top of each other. There is a large dining/kitchen area with a table, four chairs, mini fridge, sink and microwave. There is not a coffee maker. But there is a Starbucks in the lobby.
The living room has two chairs and a couch that all pull out into beds plus a dresser and TV. The bedroom is separated by bi-fold doors and has a king sized bed, night stands, TV and large Jacuzzi tub.
There is also a large screened in patio with a table and four chairs that overlooks the beach area.
Location Location Location
Our favorite part of this hotel is that it is right on the beach. The beach itself has lovely soft sand, the water is shallow for a seriously long time and it feels like bath water. Plus there are two pools and a splash pad that all face the beach as well.
It is also smack dab in the middle of the boardwalk that leads to both Cedar Point and Cedar Point Shores.
What We Did
We bought annual passes last year and they’ve been well worth it. We spent the warmer days at the water park and cooler evenings at the theme park. Best of both worlds. If you’re headed to Cedar Point with kids from the boardwalk, you walk right into the snoopy area. Pretty great since they don’t have the best stamina. This area and the one next to it, with bumper cars and the carousel keeps my toddler happy for hours.
The water park has lots for teens and older but my little ones spend hours there and never get bored. There is a wave pool, two lazy rivers (one more lazy than the other), a pool with rubberized snakes and turtles to climb on, a huge water playscape area (my least favorite because the water is always freezing), and an area with shallow water and more than ten slides for little ones to enjoy.
What We Ate
Let’s be honest, theme park food doesn’t tend to be the best and it’s expensive. We pack oatmeal or pancake cups, fruit, snacks, and things to make sandwiches in the room so we can avoid having to spend $20 on chicken fingers as much as possible. There are some dining plans that are worth it if you’re going to be in the theme parks for the entire day.
Our absolute FAVORITE thing to get is take out pizza from Sandtown Munchies. The pizza is so good that we get it every single trip. We’ve had the pineapple habanero, garlic parmesan, pickle, and hot wing pizzas. Every single one is amazing. It’s so very inexpensive.
The only downside is that you’ll have to pick it up or order it through door dash if you’re staying on Cedar Point property. But for real, get the pizza.
Heading Home
What we do the day we leave depends on the weather. The parks open right around the same time as check out so the only way we go to the pools or water park is if it’s really hot out early. This isn’t the most convenient thing because we have to get changed into dry clothes after but we’ve done it in the past to not miss a good weather day. On this last trip, we opted to pop into the snoopy area one last time for an hour, picked up Sandtown Munchies on the way home and started our three hour drive home.
A Few Tips
If you have kids in diapers, pack several swimsuits and take them to the waterpark in ziplock or wet bags. Then, if you have to take a wet swimsuit off to change a diaper, you can put a clean dry one on and put the dirty wet one in the bag. I HATE putting a wet swimsuit back on a baby. That might sound unnecessary but it made my life easier.
If you have kids recently potty trained, get this portable toilet. I didn’t have it the first time we went after I potty trained my son and it was a huge fail. He pooped in his swimsuit while waiting in the horribly long line for the bathroom. I don’t understand why there aren’t more bathrooms but every time we go, there is a giant line at every one.
If you’re child is particular about their life jacket, bring your own. Just make sure it is U.S. Coast Guard approved. My son loves this one compared to the more traditionally shaped ones that Cedar Point Shores provides.
